Afreximbank Says Medical Centre of Excellence Will Bring Foreign Exchange Savings

The medical Centre of Excellence being built by the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) in Nigeria will have a major impact in Africa by reducing the foreign exchange cost incurred by Africans through traveling outside to seek medical care by keeping medical tourism within the continent, Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of Afreximbank, has said.

Prof. Oramah, who was speaking in Bali, Indonesia, when he met with Zainab Ahmed, Minister of Finance of Nigeria, on the sidelines of the 2018 International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings, told the Minister that Nigeria was a key partner of the Bank.

Prof. Oramah briefed the minister on Afreximbank’s work in Nigeria, saying that the country accounted for a substantial part of the Bank’s portfolio.

He said that, in addition to the centre of excellence, the Bank was also building a certification centre in Nigeria which would facilitate the acceptance of African products designated for sale in the international market by ensuring that such exports met international standards.

President Oramah also took advantage of the meeting to brief the minister about the Intra-African Trade Fair being organised by the Bank in December.

Joining the meeting was Udo Udoma, Minister of Budget and National Planning of Nigeria.

The meeting was part of a series of meetings with political, economic and business leaders held by the Afreximbank delegation during the 2018 International Monetary Fund and World Bank Group Annual Meetings which was took place in Bali from 8 to 14 October.
