Afreximbank team tours Gabon Special Economic Zone

A delegation from the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) was in Gabon for three days of discussions aimed at increasing the Bank’s financial and advisory support for the country’s economic transformation.

Led by Rene Awambeng, Director of Client Relations, the delegation met with government officials and bankers and visited factories and port facilities in Libreville and surrounding areas to explore transaction and partnership opportunities in line with the Bank’s strategy to accelerate industrialisation and export development in its member

The visit included a business forum with private sector leaders and entrepreneurs in Libreville on 5 July, which was preceded by separate meetings with Madeleine Berre, Minister of Private Investments, Trade, Industry and Tourism of Gabon; with the Gabonese Federation of Businesses, and with the Gabonese Banking Association.

The delegation also toured the Gabon Special Economic Zone, which comprises a 1,126-hectare multi-sector industrial hub partly financed by Afreximbank, and includes the Special Economic Zone of Nkok and two port infrastructure (a container port and a mineral port) located in Owendo.

Other members of the delegation were Alain-Thierry Mbongue, Regional Chief Operating Officer, Francophone Central and West Africa; Jean-Gustave Afrika from the Project Finance Department and Fleur Tchibota from the Communications and Events Department.
