Dr. Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) has held discussions with Salvatore Garang Mabiordit, Minister of Finance and Planning of South Sudan, on ways of strengthening collaboration with the country in order to support its economic revival.

During the meeting, held in Washington D.C. on 19 April on the sidelines of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund, Dr. Oramah updated the minister on a number of trade finance transactions and projects being undertaken and supported by Afreximbank in South Sudan, particularly in the areas of mining and transport infrastructure.

He noted that many opportunities existed in the gold sector to formalise artisanal exploration and trading activities while leveraging on the processing capacities of other African countries.

Mr. Mabiordit gave assurance of his full support for the Bank’s activities in South Sudan and said that he was looking forward to a fruitful collaboration.

South Sudan joined Afreximbank in March 2017, becoming eligible for the deployment of the Bank’s trade and project finance programmes and advisory services.
