Prof. Benedict Oramah, President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), yesterday in Cairo received the Portuguese Ambassador to Egypt, Madalena Fischer, who visited the Bank’s Headquarters on a courtesy call.

In discussion with the ambassador, President Oramah said that Afreximbank had had relationships with a number of Portuguese companies and was keen to expand such relationships, particularly in relation to the companies’ operations in African countries with Portuguese links, such as Angola, Cape Verde, Mozambique and São Tomé and Príncipe, noting that the Bank was doing considerable business in those countries.

According to him, the Bank had a suite of guarantees with which it could support Portuguese companies interested in Africa. He also briefed the ambassador about the Intra-African Trade Fair, which the Bank was organising in Cairo from 11 to 17 December, and invited Portuguese companies to participate.

Ambassador Fischer commended the President for the work of the Bank and promised to reach out to relevant Portuguese companies to encourage them to participate in the Intra-African Trade Fair.

Accompanying the ambassador on the visit was Carlos Ferreira, Deputy Head of Mission at the Portuguese Embassy in Cairo.

On the Afreximbank side, Prof. Oramah was joined by Amr Kamel, Executive Vice President (Business Development and Corporate Banking), and Ekene Uzor, Special Assistant to the President on Banking and Special Initiatives.
