Former Egyptian Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Mona Omar has become one of the first prominent figures to visit the new President of the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), Dr. Benedict Oramah, following his investiture on 21 September.

Ms. Omar was at the Cairo Headquarters of Afreximbank on 29 September to hold discussions with officials of the Bank on its efforts to promote increased trade between Egypt and the rest of Africa and the role that Egyptian business groups could play in that process.

Dr. Oramah said that Afreximbank was already supporting the export efforts of many Egyptian businesses through some of the facilities it was providing.

Afreximbank had set up a $500 million fund to support such export activities by Egyptian entities and would raise the amount by another $500 million once the initial amount was depleted.

Earlier, Amb. Omar expressed readiness to work with Afreximbank to expand pool of Egyptian businesses accessing its services to support their export activities into other African countries.

Amb. Omar currently serves as the Chair of the Africa Center, an entity focused on improving relations between Egypt and other African countries.
