Job Summary
The Assistant Manager, Finance (Financial Accounting – GL Management & Banking Liabilities) will be responsible for general ledger management, banking liabilities, derivatives accounting, reconciliations, and IFRS-compliant financial reporting. The role involves preparing management accounts, analyzing financial transactions, and ensuring accurate accounting of treasury operations.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in financial reporting, IFRS accounting, treasury reconciliations, and ERP systems such as SAP or Finacle.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Reconciliations
- Supervise the preparation, analysis, and reconciliation of bank balances, banking liabilities, derivatives, and related income/expenses.
- Reconcile and analyze Treasury account balances, Money Market Investments, Borrowings, and related borrowing expenses monthly.
- Perform monthly reconciliations of derivatives and related income/expense transactions.
- Ensure timely reconciliation of treasury sub-ledgers with the General Ledger.
- Review bank reconciliations and ensure clearance of outstanding transactions.
IFRS Compliance & Financial Reporting
- Provide technical IFRS support on treasury-related transactions, including derivatives and hedge accounting.
- Prepare financial statement disclosures related to Treasury account balances and derivatives.
- Support monthly and annual audit processes, ensuring financial accuracy and compliance.
- Generate foreign exchange open position and interest rate gap analysis reports.
ERP & Financial Systems Management
- Support enhancements to SAP, Quantum Treasury Management System, Finacle, and other accounting systems.
- Ensure ERP system controls function effectively for financial reporting and reconciliations.
- Work with ERP system consultants to enhance financial integrity and data flow.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with Afreximbank’s AML, Regulatory, and Conduct Compliance policies, including:
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML), Counter Financing of Terrorism & Proliferation
- Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC)
- Insider Trading Guidelines
- Conflicts of Interest Policies
- Report suspicious or non-compliant activities to the Compliance Department.
- Complete the Annual Compliance Training & Assessment.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Education:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is required.
- Chartered Accounting (CA) qualification in progress is mandatory.
- Completion of Articles with a Big Four accounting firm is required.

Experience:
- At least 5 years of relevant experience, with at least 3 years in a Big Four accounting firm.
- Demonstrable knowledge of IFRS, financial accounting principles, and treasury operations.
- Experience with financial services, banking, or treasury operations is an advantage.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong expertise in financial reconciliations, IFRS compliance, and derivatives accounting.
- Proficiency in ERP systems (SAP, Finacle, Quantum Treasury Management System).
- Advanced Excel, financial reporting, and analytical skills.
- Strong understanding of banking liabilities, treasury sub-ledgers, and hedge accounting.
