Job Summary
The Manager, Compliance (Regulatory Relationship Management) will be responsible for ensuring that Afreximbank adheres to all internal policies, external regulations, and international compliance standards. The role involves managing relationships with regulatory bodies, supporting regulatory reporting, and advising senior management on compliance matters.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in regulatory compliance, policy implementation, risk management, and governance, with experience in engaging with regulatory agencies and ensuring institutional compliance with legal requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Regulatory Compliance & Policy Development
- Assist in developing and implementing policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with the Bank’s Charter and external regulations.
- Conduct regulatory gap assessments and roadmap implementation, ensuring new regulations are integrated into the Bank’s operations.
- Maintain a regulatory watch program, identifying upcoming regulatory changes and ensuring timely compliance.
Regulatory Engagement & Relationship Management
- Act as a key point of contact for regulatory bodies, responding to inquiries and ensuring smooth communication between Afreximbank and regulators.
- Organize workshops and training sessions to educate internal stakeholders on regulatory changes and compliance best practices.
- Support the development of new financial products and services, ensuring they align with legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Provide regulatory advisory services to business units, addressing compliance-related concerns and supporting decision-making.
Risk Assessment & Compliance Monitoring
- Identify, assess, and document regulatory risks associated with Afreximbank’s business activities.
- Conduct periodic compliance risk assessments, identifying gaps and recommending remediation measures.
- Ensure adherence to regulatory reporting requirements, including listing obligations, periodic filings, and disclosures.
- Develop and implement compliance monitoring programs, tracking the effectiveness of policies and controls.
Training & Compliance Culture
- Support the design and execution of compliance training programs to strengthen the Bank’s compliance culture.
- Conduct awareness campaigns on topics such as AML, conflicts of interest, anti-bribery policies, and insider trading regulations.
- Ensure internal stakeholders are informed about regulatory requirements and best practices through regular communication.
Ethics & Business Conduct
- Support the implementation of the Bank’s ethics and business conduct program, including:
- Conflict of interest declarations
- Data protection and information confidentiality measures
- Insider trading prevention programs
- Participate in complaints handling, investigations, and regulatory reporting, ensuring compliance with ethical standards.
Compliance Initiatives & Strategic Partnerships
- Conduct research and prepare advisory notes on regulatory trends impacting Afreximbank’s operations.
- Represent the Bank in industry working groups and compliance-related forums, advocating for best practices.
- Participate in annual compliance forums, supporting governance initiatives and regulatory advocacy.
Reporting & Compliance Oversight
- Assist in preparing periodic compliance reports for management and the Board.
- Ensure compliance with key Afreximbank regulatory policies, including:
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Counter-Terrorism Financing
- Conflicts of Interest & External Engagement Policies
- Anti-Bribery & Corruption Guidelines
- Insider Trading & Market Conduct Rules
- Report non-compliance issues or suspicious activities to the Compliance Department.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Education:
- Master’s degree in Law, Economics, or a related field from a recognized university.
- A professional certification in Compliance, Risk Management, or Financial Regulation is an advantage.

Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in compliance, regulatory risk management, or governance roles.
- Experience working with financial regulatory agencies, banks, or international financial institutions.
- Strong knowledge of compliance frameworks, international regulatory standards, and AML policies.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Expertise in compliance management, regulatory impact analysis, and policy development.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance, financial crime compliance, and risk assessment methodologies.
- Experience using compliance management software and regulatory reporting tools.

Soft Skills:
- Fluency in English is required (French, Arabic, or Portuguese is an advantage).
- Strong leadership, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, managing multiple compliance initiatives simultaneously.
- High attention to detail, professionalism, and organizational skills.
