Job Summary
The Manager, Client Relations (Southern Africa) will be responsible for business development, client relationship management, and trade finance origination within the Southern Africa region. The role involves structuring trade finance deals, expanding market reach, and managing relationships with corporate clients, financial institutions, and government entities.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in trade finance, structured finance, business development, and relationship management, with deep knowledge of Africa’s banking and trade finance landscape.
Key Responsibilities
Client Coverage & Business Development
- Develop and implement client engagement strategies for a portfolio of corporate and financial institution clients.
- Work with product teams to structure tailored trade finance, syndication, and co-financing solutions for clients.
- Identify and generate bankable trade finance leads, ensuring alignment with Afreximbank’s strategic objectives.
- Enhance client service experience, ensuring timely responses to inquiries and maintaining high standards of service delivery.
- Engage government institutions and central banks to facilitate trade finance transactions and support economic growth initiatives.
Transaction Structuring & Credit Analysis
- Prepare and submit Pre-Assessment Memos and Credit Proposals, ensuring alignment with Afreximbank’s risk framework.
- Conduct financial analysis, risk assessment, and due diligence on potential transactions.
- Collaborate with Credit and Legal teams to ensure successful transaction structuring and execution.
- Monitor portfolio performance, ensuring transactions comply with risk parameters and financial covenants.
Stakeholder Engagement & Market Expansion
- Represent Afreximbank in high-level client meetings, industry conferences, and trade events to strengthen the Bank’s presence.
- Develop relationships with local and international banks, trade finance intermediaries, and industry stakeholders.
- Support the development and execution of regional marketing strategies, increasing visibility and deal flow.
- Maintain and improve Afreximbank’s brand image in the Southern Africa region.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to Afreximbank’s AML, Regulatory, and Conduct Compliance policies, including:
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Counter-Terrorism Financing
- Conflicts of Interest Policies
- Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC) Guidelines
- Insider Trading & Market Conduct Rules
- Report any suspicious or non-compliant activities to the Compliance Department.
- Complete the Annual Compliance Training & Assessment.
- Obtain and manage KYC documentation for all clients and stakeholders.
- Collaborate with the Compliance team to ensure all Bank products comply with relevant country legislation.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Education:
- Master’s degree in Business Administration, Banking, Finance, or a related field from a recognized university.

Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in trade finance, corporate banking, relationship management, or structured finance.
- Strong knowledge of syndications, co-financing, correspondent banking, letters of credit, and structured trade finance products.
- Proven ability to engage senior officials of banks, corporates, and government agencies.
- Experience in marketing and selling trade finance products to African corporates and financial institutions.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Expertise in credit analysis, financial modeling, and trade finance structuring.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and CRM systems.
- Strong understanding of regional trade policies, market trends, and economic drivers.

Soft Skills:
- Fluency in English and Portuguese is required (French and Arabic are added advantages).
- Strong relationship management, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to handle multiple transactions simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail, professionalism, and strategic thinking.
- Willingness to travel extensively across the region for client engagements.
