Job Summary
The Manager, Trade, Investment & Corporate Finance (TICF) will be responsible for business development, transaction execution, and strategic initiative implementation within Eastern and Southern Africa. The role involves origination, structuring, and execution of trade, investment, and corporate finance transactions, as well as promoting intra-African trade and investment through various strategic initiatives.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in structured trade finance, corporate finance, investment banking, and risk assessment with a deep understanding of African trade policies and investment frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Origination & Structuring
- Conduct preliminary reviews of financing and non-financing requests to ensure eligibility.
- Assist in evaluating financial assumptions of client proposals to assess feasibility and risk.
- Develop and structure intra-African trade transactions, drafting indicative term sheets in line with Afreximbank’s products.
- Prepare pre-assessment memos on potential borrower transactions.
- Work with the Project Finance team to structure intra-African trade-related project finance loans.
- Collaborate with the Syndications Department to distribute large-ticket trade deals.
- Work with Advisory & Capital Markets to structure intra-African advisory transactions.
- Partner with Guarantees & Specialised Finance to structure transactions requiring ECA support.
Business Development & Market Expansion
- Develop and implement an annual marketing plan to expand the Bank’s trade and investment activities.
- Engage private and public sector clients in the region to deepen relationships and promote Afreximbank’s trade finance solutions.
- Play an active role in the design and execution of intra-African trade initiatives, including:
- Creatives Strategy
- Banking Acquisition Strategy
- Automotive Industry Development
- Export Processing Zone (EPZ) Financing
- Manage a portfolio of intra-African trade-focused clients, acting as a trusted advisor.
- Promote and drive utilization of Afreximbank’s African Trade Gateway solutions, including:
- PAPSS (Pan-African Payment & Settlement System)
- MANSA (Due Diligence Repository)
- Trade Information & Trade Regulations Portals
Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and manage the intra-African trade transaction pipeline for accurate decision-making.
- Ensure adherence to Afreximbank’s AML, Regulatory, and Conduct Compliance policies, including:
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Counter-Terrorism Financing
- Conflicts of Interest Policies
- Anti-Bribery & Corruption (ABC) Guidelines
- Insider Trading & Market Conduct Rules
- Report any suspicious or non-compliant activities to the Compliance Department.
- Complete the Annual Compliance Training & Assessment.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Education:
- Master’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field from a recognized university.

Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in trade finance, investment banking, corporate finance, or structured finance.
- Strong knowledge of African trade policies, industrialization frameworks, and investment strategies.
- Experience interacting with senior officials in financial institutions, government agencies, and corporates.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and market trade finance products.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficiency in financial modeling, credit risk analysis, and structured finance solutions.
- Strong understanding of trade facilitation mechanisms, investment structuring, and debt syndication.
- Experience with cross-border trade transactions, risk management, and project financing.

Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (French, Arabic, or Portuguese is an advantage).
- Strong negotiation, leadership, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to handle multiple transactions simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- High attention to detail, professionalism, and strategic thinking.
- Willingness to travel extensively across Africa for client engagements.
