Job Summary
The Senior Analyst, Finance (Financial Accounting – ECL) will be responsible for supporting the Bank’s Expected Credit Loss (ECL) estimation process, managing credit risk models, and preparing financial reports. The role involves collaborating with finance, risk, and credit teams to ensure IFRS-compliant financial reporting.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in IFRS 9 ECL modeling, financial reporting, and risk analysis, with experience in the banking or financial services sector.
Key Responsibilities
ECL Estimation & Financial Reporting
- Assist in managing the Bank’s ECL estimation process, including credit risk (impairment) models.
- Review and validate output from facility grading models, ensuring accuracy in financial statements.
- Work with Finance, Risk, Credit, Research, and IT teams to gather key credit and financial data.
- Operate ECL models and generate impairment figures for inclusion in:
- Monthly, Quarterly, and Annual Financial Reports
- Budgets and Forecasts
- Investor Updates
Risk & Compliance Management
- Provide technical guidance on IFRS-compliant credit impairment calculations.
- Ensure that financial statements meet regulatory and audit requirements.
- Work with the Head of Risk to prepare management commentaries on credit risk performance.
- Monitor and improve ECL models to reflect changes in risk exposure.
Cross-Functional Collaboration & Model Enhancement
- Maintain strong interactions with Credit Risk, Treasury, Banking Operations, and IT teams.
- Support the enhancement of ECL models to align with evolving market and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure that financial risk assessments align with the Bank’s strategic objectives.
Compliance & Internal Control
- Adhere to Afreximbank’s AML, Anti-Bribery, and Conduct Compliance policies.
- Report any suspicious or non-compliant financial activities to the Compliance Department.
- Complete the Annual Compliance Training/Assessment as required.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a related field.
- A postgraduate degree or professional qualification (ACA, ACCA, CPA, CFA) is required.

Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in ECL credit modeling, financial reporting, and risk assessment.
- Prior experience in a Big Four accounting firm is an advantage.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS 9 impairment models and regulatory frameworks.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficiency in financial modeling, credit risk analysis, and data analytics.
- Strong experience with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and financial reporting tools.
- Knowledge of financial systems, ERP tools, and banking operations.

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English or French.
- Ability to work independently and within a multicultural environment.
