Job Summary
The Senior Analyst, SME Development Finance will support the provision of financial interventions to African SMEs and Financial Intermediaries under the Bank’s Export SME Development Programme (ESDP). The role involves assisting in deal structuring, credit evaluation, market analysis, and financial modeling to enhance access to finance for SMEs in priority sectors such as Agribusiness, Manufacturing, Creatives, and Women & Youth Enterprises.
The ideal candidate should have strong expertise in SME finance, financial structuring, credit risk assessment, and trade development with knowledge of financial and non-financial barriers to SME growth.
Key Responsibilities
Transaction Structuring & Credit Analysis
- Draft term sheets for prospective transactions in line with SME Finance Facility guidelines.
- Conduct detailed financial analysis, including leverage, profitability, efficiency, and cover ratio calculations.
- Support the preparation of credit memos for Pre-Assessment Committee (PAC) presentations.
- Evaluate the financial assumptions underlying client proposals to ensure credibility.
- Analyze historical and projected financial statements for SME clients.
- Work with internal teams (e.g., Specialized Finance, Treasury) to secure favorable pricing for SME transactions.
- Review financing proposals and make business/commercial recommendations.
SME Finance Product Development & Market Research
- Assist in the development of financial products under the Bank’s ESDP.
- Develop and manage a database of SME Finance Intermediaries.
- Provide requisite information to clients to ensure their financing proposals align with Bank requirements.
- Support marketing efforts by developing promotional materials and engaging with SME stakeholders.
- Represent the SME Development Department in internal & external meetings, trade events, and investor forums.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to Afreximbank’s AML, Regulatory, and Conduct Compliance policies, including:
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Counter-Terrorism Financing
- Conflicts of Interest Policies
- Anti-Bribery & Corruption Guidelines
- Insider Trading & Staff Conduct Rules
- Report any suspicious or non-compliant activities to the Compliance Department.
- Complete the Annual Compliance Training & Assessment.
- Obtain required KYC and due diligence documentation from relevant parties.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Education:
- Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or a related field.

Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in SME finance, financial structuring, or credit assessment.
- Familiarity with SME trade barriers, access to finance challenges, and market entry strategies.
- Experience interacting with financial institutions, trade development agencies, and government bodies.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Strong expertise in credit analysis, financial modeling, and SME risk assessment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and financial modeling software.
- Understanding of export finance, structured trade finance, and SME development frameworks.

Soft Skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (French is an advantage).
- Strong relationship management and negotiation skills.
- Ability to function in a culturally diverse and change-oriented setting.
- Willingness to travel extensively to engage with SME stakeholders across Africa.
