Job Summary
The Manager, Trade Facilitation (Investment Promotion) will be responsible for developing and implementing strategic interventions to promote intra-African trade and investment. The role focuses on supporting African governments, corporates, and Regional Economic Communities (RECs) in trade and investment promotion initiatives, organizing trade fairs, and facilitating investment matchmaking.
The ideal candidate should have extensive experience in trade facilitation, investment promotion, trade policy, and business development, with a deep understanding of Africa’s investment climate, market linkages, and trade facilitation mechanisms.
Key Responsibilities
Trade & Investment Promotion Strategy
- Develop and manage relationships with private sector organizations, Bilateral Business Councils, the African Business Council (AfBC), Pan-African Chamber of Commerce, and Regional Business Councils.
- Identify African countries for business matchmaking and investment attraction under Afreximbank’s strategic initiatives.
- Design and implement a support program for Trade and Investment Promotion initiatives of Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
- Support the development of export and investment promotion programs in collaboration with Export Promotion Agencies (EPAs) and Investment Promotion Agencies (IPAs).
- Organize trade and investment promotion activities, including business missions, trade forums, and networking events.
- Support the implementation of the AfCFTA Investment Protocol and contribute to investment negotiations under the AfCFTA framework.
- Conduct research on African Direct Investments (ADIs), preparing investment opportunity reports, and policy briefs.
Organization of Intra-African Trade Fairs (IATF) & Exhibitions
- Develop and implement the annual Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF) work plan and budget.
- Oversee the planning of exhibitions, business-to-business meetings, investment conferences, and virtual trade fairs.
- Coordinate the African Sub-Sovereign Investment Conference to promote inter-government investment collaboration.
- Manage sponsorship mobilization efforts to enhance the impact of the IATF.
- Develop guidelines for Afreximbank’s participation in third-party Trade Fairs and Exhibitions.
- Ensure performance targets for physical and virtual trade fairs are met in collaboration with Trade Fair Organizers.
Stakeholder Engagement & Policy Support
- Work closely with government bodies, regional trade blocs, and African economic institutions to advance trade facilitation.
- Provide institutional framework support to investment promotion authorities, business support organizations, and trade associations.
- Represent Afreximbank at high-level investment summits, trade events, and policy discussions.
- Support the design and execution of training workshops, seminars, and investment facilitation programs.
Compliance & Risk Management
- Ensure adherence to Afreximbank’s AML, Regulatory, and Conduct Compliance policies, including:
- Anti-Money Laundering (AML) & Counter-Terrorism Financing
- Conflicts of Interest Policies
- Anti-Bribery & Corruption Guidelines
- Insider Trading & Market Conduct Rules
- Report any suspicious or non-compliant activities to the Compliance Department.
- Complete the Annual Compliance Training & Assessment.
Minimum Qualifications & Experience

Education:
- Master’s degree in Economics, International Trade, Public Policy, or Business Administration from a recognized university.
- A professional qualification in trade facilitation, export development, or investment promotion is an advantage.

Experience:
- Minimum 8 years of experience in trade facilitation, investment promotion, export development, or trade policy implementation.
- Strong understanding of trade facilitation instruments, export financing, and investment matchmaking.
- Experience in organizing trade missions, business networking events, and investment summits.
- Expertise in African trade policies, AfCFTA frameworks, and intra-African trade regulations.
- Ability to interact with senior officials of national, regional, and international trade and investment bodies.

Technical Skills & Knowledge:
- Proficiency in trade development strategy, investment promotion, and project management.
- Strong understanding of market access frameworks, investment risk analysis, and economic data interpretation.
- Ability to develop policy recommendations and implement trade promotion initiatives.

Soft Skills:
- Fluency in English is required (French, Arabic, or Portuguese is an advantage).
- Strong relationship management, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work in a multicultural and dynamic trade environment.
- Willingness to travel extensively to engage with stakeholders across Africa.
